Paintings on the Wall

Henry McDaniel

February 24, 2025

From this great gallery (as they may’ve been);
Via auction halls, and its bickering;
Those paintings hang, could anyone not be so keen(?!);
Ho-ho’s, turkey gobbles…that’s what’s sitting.

However, shan’t we follow the order…?
From Elgin’s lordl’ days, the marble here rests…
So ‘gallery’: Mona Lisa’s, Kahlo’s, the bricks…
All so bronzed (…Benin…), anything less…

All from the buyer’s unveiled eyes!  “Unreal!”
The sputters of words! Paddles fly! Soaring high!
The auction! Where logic is beauty’s meal!
The awaiting walls…! This something like pi?

“Perhaps this how’s grandpa’s time went?”, the kids
Said, their plunged forks into the stuffing now,
Gravy boat smiles, and grill-sizzl’ng joy, nothing “mid”,
Those long dinners kept under the pieces’ watch, “Wow”

The framers raved, continuing, “the wood only covers
A bit.” “Now, lights!” – dreary eyes, “Dust like no other.”
