Native Remembrance

Unity and DivisionGlobal Beat

The Annual Mashpee Wampanoag Powwow is held every year in Cape Cod, Massachusetts. The Wampanoag Tribe, native to Cape Cod, have inhabited the land for hundreds of years before European colonialism took root. The Wampanoags hold a Powwow to bring light and keep their traditions alive in our community each year. There is dancing, singing, markets, traditional food, even animals for everyone to come enjoy.

The Powwow brings our community together. This is a time everyone can forget about all the negative things that the media drills in our heads and just celebrate a great culture. To see that the Wampanoag Tribe is still keeping what they hold dear brings a joy to all people that come to the event. Hearing the gorgeous music that they have played for generations flow into your ears is something special. Feeling the handcrafted arts they bring with them gives you a feeling you are holding a thousand year tradition in your hands. All the positive energy around you for even just the day is a great change we all need to have in our community.

The Wampanoag Tribe brings positivity to our often disconnected community. Once a year, this wonderful group of people share traditions that have been passed down from generation to generation, holding an event that allows for everyone on Cape Cod to come together as one, unite, and celebrate our collective community.
