How We Help Pakistan Heal
Throughout the summer of 2022, Pakistan experienced colossal amounts of floods in the north, leading to 1,739 deaths, $14.9 billion in damages, and $15.2 billion in economic losses. These life-altering floods lasted from June to October.
To help Pakistan heal from this tragedy, the Pakistani Prime Minister asked the United Nations for a helping hand. The UN secretary Antonio Guterres said, “I have seen many humanitarian disasters in the world, but I have never seen climate carnage on this scale.” Pakistan came together as a nation to raise funds and hold charity events for the affected citizens of the nation. One of the most successful foundations is Alkhidmat Foundation, which is an organization that provides food, clothes, clean water, education, and health services, and has collected over $8.9 million since it started the funding drive back in July of 2022.
Due to the rise in floods, rates of many water-borne diseases have risen. To eliminate this problem, hospitals are giving out vaccines to help stop the spread of illness. Citizens of Pakistan have joined together to help their brothers and sisters in desperate need of life-saving support by donating money and clothes they don’t need anymore to the victims of these terrible ailments. In 2010, when Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was under attack, many Pakistanis opened their homes for refugees to take shelter. Similarly, during Afghan wars, many Pakistanis opened their homes for their Muslim brothers and sisters. Many students in recent years have taken the brilliant initiative to start NGOs to help the affected pupils of the many tragedies in Pakistan.
Pakistan as a community of Muslims is very accepting of their own kind, and helps aid them when necessary. We strive to make sure that victims are getting the help they need to survive this world full of calamities.
