Generation Z’s Hourglass

In a shallow understanding of the “passage of time,” the internet literally marks the date on which something is posted. Every day of our lives, our culture and our community are documented online.

Social media can spread a lot of news at unexpectedly fast speeds, only taking a minute to reach the rest of the world. Since a lot of people use social media daily, millions of posts and comments constantly rush through it. In contrast, social media can be a dangerous place sometimes, because there could be weird people watching you. If you are someone famous and you accidentally post something illegal or something that is close to being illegal, your career is over. Social media connects us through the world wide web. There are over 1.7 billion websites in the world, according to Google. Most websites track the date of publication. Some of them show the dates as well. Websites can be about a lot of different categories, for example, sports, food, or movies. When a movie releases, it shows the date, and sometimes the time.

The internet is how Generation Z marks the passage of our time – it is our hourglass, our conscience, and I’m proud of my culture.
