Community and Nature

Talking about the environment in Paraguay, I can say that most people don’t give much importance to it. We try to raise awareness, but there are people who don’t want to understand how fundamental it is in our lives.

Formerly, in a city here in Paraguay called Chaco, there was a big fire and many animals died. When we found out what happened, we really joined together for a solution. Groups were created to prioritize planting trees, and many people created campaigns about deforestation and how we can take care of the environment. But after several weeks, everyone continued with their lives, as if nothing had happened, and I think they somehow thought that they would not achieve anything. Well, it was like the light of a candle; once it was on, it would not perish.

Honestly, when I say something to someone, like to stop throwing their garbage on the floor, they stare at me and don’t want to listen. I think they don’t like to know what they are doing is wrong, and that is the problem; people don’t want to know what they do wrong. That’s why they will continuously dirty the environment, and will continuously throw their garbage. They are people who don’t feel anything when they see a tree cut down or who do not give importance to the intense heat waves that we are suffering day after day. On the other hand, there are people that are still fighting, those who will do anything to find a solution and make a change.

I am sure that everything starts with something small. I can give an example: Paraguayan youth are doing activities to clean the streets. Young people are really worried about what will happen to our environment and they try to show everyone how we can achieve change.

Nothing is impossible, it just takes a little motivation.
