Art and Music: A Community United

Music and art are and always have been the heart of our communities, shaping them and bringing all of them together. I am proud to say I am part of a community that really supports this artistic environment. I live in Madrid, Spain, a city that has been catalogued as the most multicultural one in the country. In my view, this means it is a city that accepts, loves, and above all supports traditions and cultures from all over the world, which makes it a place full of multiple artistic forms.

To begin with, Madrid is a city with numerous museums and art galleries, which have a very wide range of art pieces from different parts of the word, such as “Guernica” by Pablo Picasso or “The Scream” by Edvard Munch. The entrance to these places is usually free or has a very low price, which, in my opinion, encourages people to visit these types of places and learn more about art.

Moreover, my community also strengthens public art through murals, sculptures and graffiti that people can notice as they take a walk around any part of the city. The government also supports these and other lesser known artists and musicians by providing funding for them to develop their artistic careers in case they do not have the best economic situation at home so they can pursue their dreams.

Moving on to the music environment, Madrid totally enhances it by hosting all kinds of events, for instance concerts and music festivals like the Mad Cool Festival or the Coca Cola Music Experience. In addition to this, some local bars also have special nights in which they invite amateur artists from the area to perform songs from all kinds of music genres. More specifically, they often host jazz, soul, rock, and pop nights for these artists to become a bit more known among the community and also improve their live musical skills.

Lastly, my city also has various programs created for artists and musicians to participate in local activities, for example the program “Madrid Destino,” which advertises cultural events for these people to take part in, and also funds them.

To sum up, Madrid is a community that supports, helps, and encourages all artists to follow their dreams of turning into well-known artists in multiple fun and creative ways.
